About The Masters in Social Science Online

The master of social science abbreviation program provides in-depth knowledge of analytical, methodological and theoretical approaches to social science. The three specializations are Climate Change and Politics, Social Work with a Comparative Perspective and International Northern Development.

Best social science masters degrees is offered with three majors of 30 credits, and a master thesis of 30 credits.

The majors are taught in the autumn and spring semester of the first academic year. The master programme offers 20 credits of compulsory courses; Social Science Analysis and Qualitative and Quantitative Methods I.

Two of the specializations (Climate Change and Politics and International Northern Development) have mandatory student exchange in the third semester, while the specialization in Social Work will have 3 compulsory courses, 30 ECTS, in the third semester.

The specialization in Climate Change and Politics has in addition an introduction course in the beginning of the first semester which is held at the University of Akureyri, Iceland.

A completed Master degree in Social Sciences provides the basis for careers within academic and administrative bodies, and leadership positions in both the public and private sectors.

Admission Requirement

Completed Bachelor degree of 180 ECTS, or equivalent education of minimum 3 years duration, with an average grade of C, which also meets the criteria for the chosen specialization.

For professional studies, the average is calculated based on relevant subjects in the transcript. For other applications, the average is calculated from the major (min. 80 ECTS) plus research methods. Improvement of marks may be calculated in the average.
